Top Stars for City Snooker Meet

An international snooker tournament will be held in the city for the first time in two decades. The event, currently tagged as an All-India tournament  with participation by all leading Indian cueists including multiple World champions Pankaj Advani and Geet Sethi,will be upgraded as the organisers, the Tamil Nadu Billiards and Snooker Association, is believed to have got confirmation from two foreign entries, will be held in a new club in T Nagar from December 18 to24.

The VIP Matrix All India invitation tournament, with a winner's purse of  Rs 150.000, will have apart from Pankaj Advani and Geet Sethi, leading players such as Sourav Kothari, Kamal Chawla, Yasin Merchant, Alok kuma, Manan Chandra, Aditya Mehta. Devendra Joshi, Ashok Shandilya, Rupesh Shah, Brijesh Damani and Shahbaz Khan.

Tamil Nadu will have six entries in Rafath Habib, Siddharth Rao (both Asian gold medal lists), SA Saleen (State No 1). Prem Prakash (state No 2), Dilip kumatr (No 3) and  Vijay Nichani  (N0 4).

According to cueists in chennai the last time the city played host to an international event in the sport was almost 10 years ago, that too in billiards. Local umpirre RB Ganess will be the tournament director.

Top cueists for All - India Snooker

Leading names in the baize  game from India and abroad, will vie for honours in the All India Snooker tournament to be held here from 18 to 24 December.

The tournament that offers prize money of Rs six lakh  is being organised  by the newly  formed  VIP Access Club, Which was  promoted by popular actor R Kay, who is also the Tournament Chairman.

Tournament director RB Ganesh  said almost all the top players from India had confirmed their participateion for the event, which offers a winner's purse of Rs 1.5 lakh and the runner-up prize of Rs 90,000.

Among those who would e seen in action in the week-long tournament included world champion Pankaj Advani, who won the World Professional Billiards title at Leads recently, seven-time world champion Geet sethi, India number two Saurav Kothari  of west Bengak, Kamal Chawla (Madhya pradesh), former Asain Champions Yasin Merchant (Mumbai), and Alok Kumar (Punjab), Adithya Meehta and former world no.2 Devendra Joshi.

He said the 24 players would be divided int eight groups of three players each and the top two from each group would qualify for the knock-out pre-quarterfinals. The final would be held 24 December.

All -India Snooker Tournament

The VIP Access club is organising an all India Snooker tournament from December 18 to 24 at its  club premises at 27/2, GopalaKrishna  Street, T.Nagar where virtually all the top players  of the country, including National Champion Pankaj Advani and acee player Geet sethi are expected to take part.

The organisers are alse trying to rope in a few leading International playeers to give the tournament a foreign  flavour.
